The Tourist Holding Company Megapolus Tours was established in 1994 and nowadays is among the leading outbound tour operators in Russia. Since the time the company appeared on the market, its activity has been focused on the closest possible alignment to specific customer needs. a.     On August 31 2007, a Swiss group company, the Kuoni Travel Group, purchased 80% of the shares belonging to the Tourist Holding Company Megapolus Tours. The Kuoni Travel Group is a major European tourist group company with a capital turnover of $4,700 million and a staff of more than 8,500 people. Its head office is located in Zurich. It is in Zurich that Alfred Kuoni established his company group in 1906.

b.    The Tourist Holding Company Megapolus Tours is part of Smart which is a Scandinavian Strategic Business Division of the Kuoni Travel Group. The reason for this regional subordination is explained by the resemblance of this Russian tour operator’s business model to the Scandinavian one.

c.     The appearance of the Kuoni Travel Group in the life of Megapolus Tours gives our company new major advantages. First and foremost, this is another argument to support the company’s credibility and financial solvency, which is especially relevant in times of crisis. Besides, this gives an access to the financial and technological resources of the Swiss group company. Such a “safety cushion” allows us to function effectively and plan ahead rather than survive in the difficult period of a decrease in demand.

d.    The Tourist Holding Company Megapolus Tours is now offering service packages to 50 countries to groups and individual travellers. Among them are skiing, beach and excursion tours. Besides, we are rendering professional services in organising diving tours, wedding tours and business trips. Our new offices are now open in such Russian cities as St. Petersburg, Samara and Yekaterinburg with more to open in Voronezh and Novosibirsk in the nearest future. In addition to that, our holding company owns a chain of travel agencies in Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod which enables us to provide tourists with the full package of services.

e.     One peculiarity of the tourist business is that within this business segment good results can be achieved only by joint efforts of the tour operators proper, their partner hotels, airlines, etc., and also managers on-site.
