Turkey is the leader in Russian travel market
Almost 2.5 million Russian tourists visited Turkey during the period from January to September 2011 (+14% in comparison with the same period of last year).
The 2nd place took China and the 3rd one – Egypt. This year the tourist flow to Egypt decreased by 39% and amounted to 905.6 thousand people. Almost 1.1 million Russian tourists visited China during 9 months of 2011 (+9%).
The following countries got over half a million number of the tourists during 9 months of 2011: Germany (527.8 thousand tourists), Greece (568.2 thousand tourists), Spain (563.8 thousand tourists), Thailand (514.8 thousand people) and Finland (681.4 thousand people).
Just to note, that the data of the Federal State Statistics Service doesn’t always objectively show the numbers of the Russian tourists who travel abroad. Very often, the calculation is done according to the records of the Russian border service where the destination is counted by the city which is indicated in the ticket. So for those countries where the tourists travel with via some transit cities the Russian statistics differs from the data of the foreign tourist offices.
As for the inbound tourist flow to Russia the growth rate is not so high this year. More than 19.1 million foreigners visited Russia during the period from January to September (+12%). However, only 1.97 million people visited Russia with tourist purposes. So, it was only 10% of the entire inbound tourist flow. Nevertheless, the number of the foreigners increased by 9% in comparison with the same period of last year.
The major supplier of the tourists to Russia remained China. Almost 196 thousand Chinese tourists visited Russia during the first 9 months of the year (+53%).
