Muscovites run away to St. Petersburg

Unceasing heat and wildfires favour mass “escape” of the Muscovites from the capital. The people are so tired of acrid smoke that they are dreaming to go anyplace away from the city. Weekend tours are popular for those who can’t take long holidays and long trips are popular for the others.

“Yesterday and today we have been receiving a lot of calls of the Muscovites; they are ready to go anyplace where they will be able to breathe a fresh air without smoke”, said Natalia Obodnikova, Manager of Orient, St. Petersburg Branch, “most of the clients are interested in 2 or 3 days tours for the nearest dates to the suburbs of St. Petersburg.”

The same situation was noted in Versa (St. Petersburg). According to the managers of the company, there are no any offers, it’s almost impossible to find some places in the hotels, but the Muscovites call and entreat to find something.

A lot of clients ask Raena company to offer some variants in Moscow region where there are no any wildfires. Weekend tours are popular and one week tours are in demand as well.

Meanwhile, we were told in Orient and Solvex that the demand for Moscow region decreased a little bit these days. According to Sergey Strebkov, the Head of Domestic Tourism Department of Solvex, there were some cases when the people left the holiday hotels earlier, as it was difficult to stay there due to the smoke. As for the increase of the demand, Crimea, Belarus, Mineralnye Vody, Kaliningrad region, St. Petersburg and some other regions became very popular. “The tourists ask to send them anyplace where they won’t smell burning. Some of the clients even ready to stay in St. Petersburg for couple of days while the holiday hotel is occupied”, added Sergey Strebkov.
