Tallinn attracts the Russians by multiple visas and Tax Free

The popularity of Tallinn has been growing among the Russians. The number of the Russian visitors increased by 47% during the first six months of 2010 amounting to 15 500 people, reports Meeting.LV.

According to Tatiana Krapivina, Head of Estonian Department of Versa, the number of the Russian tourists who traveled to Tallinn increased by 50%. “After New Year people felt some stability and started to travel more often. Besides, Estonia defined the lowest sum of the purchases for TaxFree – 600 krones (about 40 Euros).  It used to be 1500 krones and even earlier 2500 krones. Certainly, it attracts our tourists. Moreover, the prices in Russia are much higher, but there are a lot of stores in Tallinn as in any European city”, commented Tatiana Krapivina.

Besides, the tour operators note that the price policy of the hotels became more flexible. A lot of hotels of 3-4* categories have been built for the last 4 years and now they compete with each other. The Russians prefer 4* hotels, so the hoteliers compete for the Russian tourists, offering special prices.

According to Maria Pavlova, Russian Express, now a lot of the Russians visit Estonia having Schengen multiple visas, for example, the Finnish one. At the same time Estonian authorities have started to issue multiple visas for the tourists who visited the country several times. Noting the close location of this country, our citizens willingly visit Tallinn.

However, Russia takes the 2nd place as a supplier of the tourists to Tallinn just ceding to Finland with 256 800 tourists during the first six months of the year.
