The number of the Russians traveling abroad increased by 40% during the first six months of the year

Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) analyzed the dynamics of outbound tourist flow of the Russians during the first six months of 2010. According to Federal State Statistics, the number of outbound tourists during the first six months increased by 43% in comparison with 2009.  

According to Federal State Statistics and Border Check-point Service, the total number of the Russians traveling abroad during the first half of the year amounted to more than 5 million people. Just to remind, that the number of the tourists during the same period of last year amounted to 3 800 000 people. It’s interesting to note, that the increase of tourist flow amounted to more than 10% in comparison with 2008 (4 900 000 people).

For the last 2 years Egypt has been holding the leading position during the first half of the year in 2010 and 2009. The tourist flow to Egypt increased by 65% during the first six months of 2010 (1 140 000 people) in comparison with the same period of 2009 and increased by 52% in comparison with 2008. The share of Egypt in total tourist flow from Russia amounted to 21% (+7% in comparison with 2006). Just to remind, that up to 2009 outbound tourist flow to Turkey during the first six months of the year took lead over the tourist flow to Egypt. 

The 2nd place in number of tourists from Russia took Turkey. Almost 924 000 Russians visited this country during the first six months of 2010 (+44% in comparison with 2009 and +17% in comparison with 2008). The share of Turkey during the first half of the year amounted to 17%.

The 3rd place took China with the increase of more than 40% in comparison with last year (564 000 people). The share of China during the first six months of 2010 amounted to 10% (-7% in comparison with the first six months of 2006).  

The 4th place took Finland with 310 000 tourists from Russia (+8.6% in comparison with the first six months of 2009 and -9.5% in comparison with 2008). TheshareofFinlandamountedto5.7% (-4% incomparisonwith2006).

ThailandclosedTOP5. More than 225 000 Russians visited this country during the first six months of 2010 and that was almost in two times more than in 2009 (+30% in comparison with 2008). The indicators of Thailand in dynamics of growth are record breaking in comparison with the first six months of 2009 (+119%). The share of Thailand amounted to 4.2% in 2010 (+1.5% in comparison with 2006).

In general, the Russian travel market increased its indicators almost in two times during the first six months of 2010. Such tendency can be noted during the second half of the year, as well.
