Malta expects to receive for 15% more Russians in 2011
Malta is planning to receive 25-26 thousand tourists from Russia (+15% in comparison with last year), announced Antony Caruana, Director of Malta Tourism Office in Russia and CIS countries.
According to Mr Caruana, the number of cruise passengers from Russia increased during the summer season. The number of MICE tourists grew as well. A stable interest of the Russians can be noted for educational tours.
Due to the excess demand, the summer program of Air Malta started earlier and finished later than usual. During the winter season, one flight a week is operated, however, traditionally some extra flights will be added for New Year period.
It’s interesting to note that for the moment, Malta develops actively cruise tourism. This sector brings the country 30 million Euros. The number of the cruise passengers increased by 7% during the period from January to October. It’s expecting that the record of 2008 will be broken: 550 thousand people arrived in the country by cruise liners.
