One carrier is good, but two is better!
17.06.2010
The Ministry of Transport finally admitted the problems in the market concerning charter flights. In order to avoid further difficulties, the number of appointed carriers of regular flights for the most popular destinations must be increased.
If not just one or two carriers, but three or four ones will operate the flights, the disputes concerning the rights to operate charter flights will be solved, think in the Ministry of Transport. Now appointed carriers have leverage for other participants of the market. They don’t need to be afraid of price competition and can dictate their own terms and conditions of operating the flights. It leads to the fact, that cheap air tickets become rarity.
The most problematic destinations of the season became Bulgaria and Greece. At the beginning Aeroflot could not share the sky with air companies which offer cheap tickets. Now the “war” has started between Bulgaria Air and S7. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the demand for charter flights has increased considerably this year.
So, the Ministry of Transport will consider the possibility to revise exciting intergovernmental agreements in order to increase the number of appointed air carriers for regular flights.
