The passenger traffic of Sochi port decreased in 5 times
13.07.2010
In comparison with Soviet times the passenger traffic of Sochi port decreased in 5 times.
In 2009 the number of visitors amounted to 25 thousand people and at the end of the 80s 300 ships touched at a port with 135 thousand passengers. According to Vladimir Derkunov, General Director of Sochi Port, it’s necessary to restore the indicators in 5-10 years. However, for receiving the ships of more than 200 meters long, considerable sums must be invested to the port’s infrastructure.
Vladimir Derkunov thinks that the potential of Black Sea ports can be estimated for 200 thousand cruise passengers a year. During the period from 2009 to 2012 new 38 liners will be built in Europe and 18 ships from this number will be oriented for Black and Mediterranean Seas. According to the opinion of Mr. Derkunov, the slow development of the Russian ports can be explained not only by the underdeveloped infrastructure but also by the lack of ships oriented to the Russian tourist.
